This year European bison, Iron Age pigs and Exmoor ponies will be introduced to West Blean woods as part of a ground-breaking wilding project. Learn from a Kent Wildlife Trust Guide about how the animals will manage the land naturally, replacing human activity normally carried out in the woodland.

Find out how they will breathe life back into the landscape, improving habitats and increasing biodiversity, and see the ponds and fences being installed ready for their arrival. For as long as possible, you’ll be taken behind the fences to see areas within the bison enclosure that will soon be inaccessible.

 

As you explore the woodland your guide will be on hand to answer any questions, and to point out some of the seasonal wildlife, such as wood ants and heath fritillary caterpillars, already abundant in West Blean.

En-route to the woods, your Kent Bike Tour guide will share interesting stories, tidbits, and facts about Kent and the places we pass as we cycle along The Crab & Winkle Way, a disused train line that explores a delightful slice of east Kent, packed with history and nostalgia.

After our guided tour through the forest, we’ll have a picnic of local Kent products in a lush spot in the woods.
